Scarcity and Flow

There is a topic that hits pretty near and dear to my experience, and it is the idea of scarcity. The talk below by Sendhil Mullainathan is GENIUS for a number of reasons. It’s a long one but a good one.

…for my game design purposes, one of the big links to take is how scarcity produces a focus and a narrowing of vision – a state of flow, where it is difficult to appreciate things outside of the tunnel. Games introduce managing scarcity as a challenge…and there perhaps designers could learn a thing or two from payday lenders and starvation…
